Rated R for language and sexual situations! <><><><><><><><><> "A Preventer? Me? You have to be shitting me." She murmured in surprise as she glanced at her aunt. "Maybe a little responsibility will do you good," Lady Une replied as she turned on her heel preparing to leave. "You will stop by the tailors later and be fitted for your uniform. You start in one week." "Yes Ma'am." "And Midii..." "Yes?" "I yelled because I was worried." "I'm not used to that." "Hmmm?" "Having people worry about me. I'm sorry; I'll call next time I expect to be out all night." "Or late?" "Yes, or if I'll be late. It might take me awhile to get used to it.” The words fell out of her mouth in a rush and she glanced up at her Aunt with the apology shining in her eyes. "I understand that Midii, but in this household I would appreciate a call if you're going to spend the night away from home. And if you could possibly find someone else to spend the night with?" Lady Une asked softly, the anger from the previous encounter gone. "I'm afraid I can't do that, Duo has already become a good friend of mine. He may seem rough and uncouth, but I spent most of my life around men like that," Midii said her voice going cold as she struggled to keep her temper in check. "I shouldn't have said anything, but its worry that prompts me. I don't want him to break your heart." "He wouldn't do that," she responded, "Barton on the other hand" she said softly to herself, turning away from her aunt and missing the look of surprise which briefly flared on the stern commander’s face. "Would you care to tell me what happened last night? Where you got the bruises on your arms? Because if Maxwell made them there will be hell to pay." She sighed as Midii shook her head. "Please Midii; you can give me at least that. You are my niece and I want to be there for you. To protect you as much as I can. I can't make up for what my brother did, but I can damn well make sure that you're treated well here, at least by my own subordinates." Midii glanced up surprise in her eyes. "You mean it?" She asked softly, sounding like a lost child. "Yes, I do. Believe in me, please?" "I do, just looking at Mariemaia and what you've done for her I can't help but believe in you." "Then tell me please." Midii sighed, debating whether she should say anything to her aunt. She didn't want to get Trowa in trouble, but then, she didn't want to have to be around him for the foreseeable future. She just couldn't get his words out of her head. "The bruises are from Barton. He was drunk last night, and he got jealous. I had been dancing with Maxwell and we stopped for a breather, we were talking and then Barton grabbed me. He and Maxwell got into a scuffle, and then Maxwell comforted me." She finished, cringing, her life sounded like a bad soap opera. "Is that all?" "Um..." "Is there anything else you wish to tell me?" "Not right now, no." "Thank you." Midii smiled and hugged her Aunt tightly, hope blooming in her heart. <><><><><><><><><> "Starting today your assignment of guiding my niece about is over," Lady Une said to the stiff backed Preventer standing before her. "I don't know the entirety of what went on last night, but I do not appreciate her being abused. I do believe that there is a backlog in the filing room, I would like you to take over that, and develop a more suitable filing system." He cringed; he would almost prefer to have been fired than being stuck in paperwork hell. "Yes Ma’am." "You are dismissed. Please tell Maxwell I would like to see him immediately." She wondered at the wisdom of her decision to have Maxwell escort her niece. She didn't believe he was the right type for a member of her family but she had heard her niece’s voice when she spoke of him. Not love but comfort. He gave her comfort, and at the moment her niece needed comfort. She needed assurance and safe harbor. "Yes Ma’am." Inwardly Trowa seethed at the thought of Duo getting closer to Midii. <><><><><><><><><> "Rise and shine," he called softly as he gently shook her. Mischief sparking in his eyes as she swiped at him. He turned at Marie's soft giggle. "She's hard to wake up," the little girl offered and he smirked. Moving closer to his accomplice and motioning for her to follow him from the room. "Shall we give her a shower then," he asked softly chuckling as the ex-child-dictator-in-training grinned wolfishly. "Oh yes, I think there are some wonderful buckets downstairs, rather large, perfect for an early morning shower." His sides ached with the effort of controlling his laughter. "Lead the way," he managed to gasp out almost dancing with glee as Marie began leading him towards the kitchen. <><><><><><><><><> "AAHHHHHH!" Her scream echoed throughout the mansion as she bolted upright. Her hair plastered to her head, her shirt transparent. "DUO MAXWELL YOU ARE SO DEAD!" She yelled at the braid she watched disappearing from her room as she struggled to free herself from the blankets. "WHEN I LAY MY HANDS ON YOU, YOU WILL PAY!" She snarled as she fell to the floor. The choking laughter from the doorway drew her attention and her gaze landed on Marie. "Did you help Duo?" she asked softly, her voice menacing. "Yes," Marie gulped her laughter fading as terror began to sink in. "Then I'm afraid you too shall pay." Midii said softly, hiding her face behind a curtain of hair. "Tickle Attack!" She yelled as she leaped for her cousin, fingers finding the younger girls ticklish spots with startling speed and accuracy. Their laughter drew Duo out of hiding and he smiled at the scene unfolding before him. The smile faded as the tickle attack halted and both Une women turned to him, smirking as they pounced. "I told you that you would pay, and I mean it," Midii said softly as she leaned in to give him a quick kiss. Laughter in her eyes. "Ew, cooties," Marie said sending both Midii and Duo into another laughing fit. "One day you will enjoy such things." Midii said sagely as Duo pulled her into his arms. "Never." She chuckled, ruffling her cousin’s hair. <><><><><><><><><> -to be continued |
